Energometal approached us with an idea for extending its experience in the automotive industry into a consumer mobile product.
The result was CarKit, a mobile application designed to give drivers a simpler way to keep track of their vehicle, service history, replaced components, invoices and upcoming maintenance.
We handled the complete product design and development of CarKit for both iOS and Android.
The challenge
Keeping track of a car's service history sounds simple until the information starts spreading across paper receipts, invoices, warranty documents and memory. After enough time passes, it becomes difficult to remember when a component was replaced, what mileage the car had at the time or when the next service should happen.
Energometal wanted to turn that fragmented experience into something drivers could manage from one place. The product needed to be useful over the entire ownership of a vehicle, but simple enough that everyday drivers would actually continue using it.
The challenge was therefore not just storing service records, but creating a mobile experience people could return to whenever something was repaired, replaced or due for maintenance.
The solution
We designed CarKit around a personal digital garage. Users start by adding their vehicle and can then build a complete service history over time, recording replaced components, mileage, service providers, costs and other relevant information.
Receipts and warranty documents can be photographed and stored alongside each service record, while reminders help users keep track of previous and upcoming maintenance instead of relying on memory.
We also developed a discovery section where users can find automotive businesses such as service centers, car shops, fuel stations and roadside assistance providers.
The complete application was designed and developed by our team for both iOS and Android. Since launch, CarKit has passed 6,000 downloads and continues to attract more than 160 new users per week.
